The Coalition to End Violence Against Women (CEVAW) is a group of organizations in the Niagara Region who have come together to help end violence against women. In June 2010, cevaw completed Niagara's first domestic violence report card and supplementary report detailing the strength's and weaknesses in our response to domestic violence.

Our Mission:

CEVAW is a collective voice of organizations from the Niagara Region that is working toward ending violence against women by raising public awareness, educating, sharing information, networking and identifying and breaking down systematic barriers that perpetuate violence.

 Statement of Beliefs:

We believe that violence against women and their children is the result of gender inequality and the abuse of power and control. Abuse involves patterned behaviour and can be physical, sexual, emotional, financial or psychological. We recognize that men are most often the perpetrators of this violence and we believe it is every person's right to live free of violence and the fear of violence. We believe in zero tolerance.

We believe child witnesses of abuse have distinct needs that have to be addressed, and that the safety of women and children is of paramount importance. We believe the empowerment of women and children is essential to eliminating abuse, that violence is a societal issue which can only be eliminated if addressed at all levels and perpetrators must be held accountable for their actions. We believe that survivors of violence bring an important perspective to the planning and delivery of services in our community.

Further, we believe that the activities we engage in as a coalition should be responsive to the distinct needs of all persons, regardless of culture, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation and physical or mental abilities, language and sociol economic status. We believe that as a coalition we are accountable to our stakeholders. We believe that solutions are best generated through a collaborative, respectful approach.
